Chanel Illusion d'Ombre eyeshadows: Mirifique (85) and Illusoire (83)

These two Chanel Illusion d'Ombre eyeshadows were some of my favourite makeup items of 2011 and as I only bought them in the last few months of the year, I think that's quite impressive.

The Illusion d'Ombres are somewhere between a drier textured cream and a mousse. When you apply them to the lid they don't feel as moist as cream eyeshadows, it almost feels like you don't have any product on your finger. And no, they are nothing like the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill eyeshadows which are basically pressed powders.

The first colour that I got was Mirifique - everyone was raving about how beautiful this sparkly black is and how well it worked as a liner and well, they were right, it's a beauty. The teal and silver sparkle in this one is very prominent and it looks gorgeous all over the lid for a "wet" effect and really is a lovely eyeliner which is how I wear it most of the time - I just apply it with my Rouge Bunny Rouge 008 eyeliner brush or with the little Chanel brush that comes with these eyeshadows and add a matte brown colour in the crease to give some definition to my eyelids.

After liking Mirifique so much I wanted to try some other colours and even though there are only 6 colours currently in the range I liked all the colours except the white Fantasme but decided to go with Illusoire, a very safe choice for me. Illusoire is a dark grey purple with lots of blue, pink and silver shimmer. I thought it would be very similar to Rouge Bunny Rouge Delicate Hummingbird and if you ask my boyfriend he'd say that they are identical but they of course are not: Illusoire is more blue toned, Delicate Hummingbird almost looks warm toned next to it, and the finish of Illusoire is much shinier.

I find that the best way for me to apply Illusoire is by patting it on with my fingers and it's really easy to build it up to a full metallic effect.

Hopefully, you can see some of the sparkle I'm babbling about in this photo:

And because you can't really see much of the actual colour of these eyeshadows on my eyelid due to my lids being from da hood, below are the swatches of Mirifique and Illusoire:

When I first watched these at the counter they looked quite sheer but you can layer them very easily to achieve an opaque shimmery finish.

The Illusion d'Ombres are not very longlasting on my oily lids although they do last for the most of the day if I use them over a primer and luckily they fade very evenly and don't leave me with colour moving completely to my crease. Also, I haven't had any problems with Mirifique as a liner - it doesn't smudge and it stays put.

Overall, I love the texture and the sparkliness of the Illusion d'Ombres and for me the overall effect is still daytime appropriate. Two new colours were used at the Chanel 2012 SS Haute Couture show and I really hope they will be available at all the counters, that teal colour sounds promising (You can see the photos and more details over at Makeup4all).

Have you tried the Chanel Illusion d'Ombres? What are your favourite colours from this line? Based on the responses I got on twitter Epatant seems to be another winner and next on my list.

  2. Gorgeous! Still loving Ebloui and I really pleased I got it first as it is definitely my fave, that said Illusoire is still a possibility, I need to see it in the flesh am a bit concerned it might not have the wow factor in terms of colour on me that I feel Ebloui has. Fab photos btw! x

  4. Hi Georgia! It really is a gorgeous colour and I think Chanel is releasing a matte black in this formula as well, but I'm not as interested in that one. x

Thank you, Debbie! Ebloui looks beautiful on you, a great first choice for you. I wish they did more neutral colours as well, a deep gray like their polish in Graphite would be amazing. x

Hi Aurora! It's also great that Mirifique has enough pigment so it's not just shimmer, I really recommend that colour! x

I got Mirifique too but one of my next color will be Illusoire for sure cause it's a beautiful shade too!! It's a more wearable color for everyday use while Mirifique is for night out looks because it's so dark! I did a little review on it! Let me know what you think!
