My first FOTD: Neutral eyes and bright(ish) lips

As I mentioned in my previous post, one of my favourites right now is my new camera - so I begged my boyfriend to take some photos of me with a full face of makeup (gulp!) - soft neutral brown eyes and bright lips. Well, I thought the lips were bright but apparently the camera ate all the colour - I will post some better photos of the lipstick and lipgloss combo in the future.

Revlon Colorstay foundation Normal/Dry in Sand Beige (180)
Vichy Dermablend Foundation in 25 as a concealer
ELF HD Powder

Becca Eye Tint Baroque
Le Metier de Beaute Crystal Ball (gold/khaki/taupe) all over the lid
Laura Mercier Chocolate (dark shimmery brown) in the crease
MAC Sunday Best as a highlight in the inner corners
MAC Showstopper (dark matte brown) on the lower lashline
Bobbi Brown black gel eyeliner
Le Metier de Beaute mascara

Le Metier de Beaute Blonzer in Maldives Magic
Stila Convertible Colour in Gerbera

Nars Niagara lipstick
Revlon Pink Pop lipgloss

And another photo just so you can see that I really used the gazillion eye products as listed above.

And that's it, any tips on how to make the colours more vibrant in photos would be highly appreciated!

  1. You're a very pretty girl, don't be afraid to show your face! I'm liking the natural look on you a lot!

  2. You're so pretty! Thanks so much for your FOTD! I think all cameras wash out the makeup girls apply. So often I've done a FOTD for the camera, then toned down the lipstick and blush before I leave the house :)

I love your FOTD. I love the tones you chose.

  4. That's a beautiful and natural look, and the colors complement you perfectly. I know exactly what you mean about the camera eating color. I can get it to capture my lips fairly well, but even the most dramatic eyeshadow washes out via the camera lens.

  7. Hi Jenn, thank you, it feels weird having photos of myself on the blog, I guess I'll get used to it. x

Thank you Dempeaux, I'll try your tip, I always like your FOTD posts and I'm thinking it must be even harder to get the colours to show up properly with glasses on. x

Oh Jeanie, your comment really made me smile, thank you x

Thank you, Zuzu's Petals, I think that in the full face photos the makeup looks really washed out, maybe next time I should do the closeups as well. x

Thank you, Christa, I will try and do more FOTD posts in the future! x

Thank you, Replica, my skin is much better now, but the Vichy concealer makes a huge difference, too ;) x

Thank you all for such lovely comments!

  8. Klara you look so beautiful and the makeup really gives a nice natural but pretty look. So nice to finally put a face to the name! I think everyone gets a bit nervous when they first do a FOTD, I know I hate seeing pictures of my face, but you look amazing. Love the eye and lip combination, will keep my eye out for that Nars lipstick x Oh also your skin looks fabulous!

  9. What a lovely look and it's so nice to finally see you :D. I love the eye look and I think you've made my lust for Gerbera grow!

The getting colours to stand out in pictures is really tricky. Sometimes doing it with flash, holding it at a distance and zooming in to avoid bleaching works well. I also tend to stand facing a window a step or two back to get good lighting without letting the light bleach the colours out. I'm still far from perfect and I've taken dempeaux's approach in the past too ;). After a while of doing it you tend to find the best spot and angle for you.

Thank you for sharing your look and beautiful face xxx

  12. Thank you so much Jennifer, the NARS lippie and the Revlon gloss are both gorgeous, I think you'd like them, will do some better swatches and photos, hopefully next week! x

Hi Jane, thank you for the recommendations, I think there really was too much light in these photos, will have to try and experiment a bit more. Oh, and Gerbera is gorgeous, a great colour for summer ;) x

Thank you Christina, the gloss is a gorgeous colour and also quite affordable, I definitely recommend it. x

Thank you Stacy! The camera is a Canon EOS 450d. x

Thank you for your kind comments! x
