Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation

I got the Laura Mercier Oil Free foundation (33 GBP) a while back, during my short trip to London. I've read some quite good reviews beforehand online and the ingredients list sounded promising:
- no silicones
- no added fragrance
- oil-free
- and some antioxidants thrown in for good measure.

When I visited the Liberty counter I asked the makeup artist to try this foundation on me and I have to say that the initial effect was nice - medium coverage, silky finish so I decided to take a bottle home with me. The colour that I got was Warm Ivory (the lightest warm colour in their range which then proved to be too light for my skin tone).

After weeks of wearing this I can honestly say that this foundation does not work for me at all - no matter how I apply it (with a brush, fingers or a sponge) it just makes my skin look very dull, it accentuates every pore and dry patch, feels heavy but at the same time doesn't offer enough coverage and it makes my skin oily very quickly. The texture is creamy and thick and quite hard to blend which is probably also due to the lack of silicones.

I think that this foundation might only look ok on those people who have perfectly even skin tone but then again there are much better foundations with nicer texture out there.

I've really been liking the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua lately and of course my staple Revlon Colourstay. I "need" a lighter coverage foundation / tinted moisturizer for the summer and I've read that Clinique is coming out with a new tinted moisturizer although by the time it reaches our counters the summer will probably already be long gone.

  1. Hi Klara,
I have to say that this foundation didn't work for me at all. I got it about three years ago and when the girl applied it with a sponge, it looked great, but I could never replicate the look myself. The finish I get is cakey and unflattering, much like your experience. However, the tinted moisturiser is good and I have repurchased it so don't let this put you off! X

  2. Hi Jennifer, I know, when he applied it at the counter it looked ok but I only wore it for a couple of hours that day. I just really disliked how heavy it looked. Might have to try the tinted moisturizer, I need something lighter for the summer. Thanks! x Klara

  3. I definitely recommend the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer to you if you're looking for a more moisturizing, light coverage. The oil free foundation is perfect for me but I have extremely oily skin and love that it results in a satin finish. It is thick and very difficult to apply with brushes, but sometimes I just use my fingers or dab with sponge wedges.

  4. Hi Liz, thank you for the recommendation, I will have to get a sample of the Tinted Moisturizer! I guess my skin is not the right type for the Oil-Free as only my t-zone is oily and the rest of my face is more normal to dry. x Klara
